KATE TAVERNA

Editor

Kate Taverna is a socially conscious documentary filmmaker and sculptor.

Her 2024 short film The Art of Metaphor: Donna Dennis is her debut solo-directing effort on the 2024 festival circuit. She has co-directed and edited four films with Alan Adelson, which have received festival awards, theatrical releases nationwide, and national and international broadcasts.

Kate has also edited more than 50 documentaries, feature-length and shorts, two of which have been nominated for Academy Awards, and others have won Emmy awards and festival prizes over her career.

As a sculptor, she weaves steel and metal into installations, evoking the effects of warfare, violence, and social displacement.  Haunted by children lost to gun violence and war, her continuing series of sculpted child-sized armor evokes their innocence and vulnerability.
